Rhonda Byrne claims that a period of utter despair in her life brought her to the realization of a new truth.
The new truth is that the "Law of Attraction", which she claims is the most powerful law in the universe, is "The Secret."
"The Secret" is now a book that has sold 2 million copies. Promoted as an age old secret that is 4000 years old and known only to a fortunate few.
The instructional DVD called "The Secret" proclaims that "thoughts become things."
If someone thinks hard enough about something, you will end up and getting it, whether it's good or bad.
The law of attraction is especially potent when your thoughts and desires are empowered by emotions.
By applying the "Law of Attraction", a person can create his own circumstances based on what he thinks and on the choices he makes.
In other words, you can create your own reality.
Lisa Nichols, one of the promoters of "The Secret" proclaims "Your life is a physical manifestation of the thoughts that go on in your head."
Nichols also says "You are eternal life. You are God manifested in human form, made to perfection."
Just as New Age religion proclaims "You are a God within yourself. "The Secret" promotes the same idea.
In 2 Cor.10:5 We're told to bring our thoughts under subjection with obedience ,and submit ourselves to God, not to manipulate our thoughts and enhance ourselves.
"The Secret" is not a message of selflessness as is Christianity, but a message of self-indulgence.
Sadly, the promoters of "The Secret" twist the scriptures to promote their doctrine.
Worse yet, the doctrine was also promoted by the Oprah Winfrey show in February of 2006, and by Jack Canfield, the author of "Chicken Soup for the Soul".
There is always a grain of truth in every false doctrine.
It is true that thoughts and attitudes will affect the outcome of your life.
But God does not want us trying to manipulate our circumstances by our thoughts for selfish gain.
We should be seeking his will for our life and being obedient to his direction.
