Why would a Roman soldier recognize Christ

What was it that caused this Roman centurian to recognize that this was God's son who had just died on the cross, while others mocked and missed the significance of his death.

I believe this Roman centurian took in all the evidence of what happened , added it together, and came to an educated conclusion.
The soldier was a hard man who had witnessed death and dying on crosses many times, but this death was different, it had dramatic structure to it.

For one thing, there was the illegal night-time council and judgment by the Sanhedrin.
The failure of Pilot to find a sufficient charge for crucifixion.
The rigged cry by the crowd for crucifixion of the man ,that earlier that week had been hailed as the Messiah in a parade.
There were the wise words that Jesus had spoken to Pilot "Those who love the truth recognize what, I say is truth."
The fact that Jesus refused to defend himself against the multiple accusations brought against him.
The fact that when Pilot asked him if he was a king. Jesus said. "Yes it is as you say,"
The fact that even when they mocked him , spit on him ,and hit him with a rod, he did not react in anger or hatred .
The fact that he endured the whipping with a lead tiped scourge that many men don't survive.
On top of that was the fact that he held onto the cross as if it were his mission to bear it, and laid himself down on the cross without fighting, cursing, or yelling.
Then, he hung on the cross for six hours, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. At noon the sun was blocked out and nature seemed to testify to the fact that God had turned his back and looked away, while Jesus hung on the cross and cried "My God, my God, Why have you forsaken me"
He watched as Jesus told a repentant thief ,dying beside him ,that he would be in paradise that very day with him.
He watched Jesus assign John to care for his widowed mother.
He watched Jesus cry out "It is finished" as if some mission had been accomplished, and seemingly just stop breathing on his own.
To top off all this, was the fact that Jesus prayed on the cross. "Father forgive them for they don't know what they're doing" and looked at him with compassion instead of hatred.
The only logical solution was "Surely this man was the son of God."
